Global stainless production expected to increase by 7% this year

According Michael Jansen, the analyst of J.P. Morgan, global stainless production will probably have a rise of 7% this year, following the sharp increase of global crude stainless steel production.

Posco remains stainless steel prices unchanged for July

Reportedly, South Korean Posco announced on June 27th to remain its stainless steel prices unchanged for July delivery after its price dip for stabilizing market in last month.

Meanwhile, it’s known that Posco cut the prices of hot rolled and cold rolled stainless steel to 3.6 million won/ton and 3.87 million won/ton in June.

Nickel prices expected to move downward in 2~3 year

The Sudbury Star reported that global nickel prices may be moving down.

The estimated nickel price should be stable at USD 9 ~11 per pound in the coming 2 or 3 three years, according to Mr Kerry Smith, the analyst at Haywood Securities.

Scrap prices remain stable in Italy

Recently, Italy’s scrap market has remained weak. However, the scrap prices have kept stable due to the balance of supply and demand.

At present, the prices of HMS scrap are at US$425~US$440/ton in Italy’s domestic market; that of busheling remains stable at US$530~US$544/ton.

Zimbabwe plans to impose chrome ore export duty

Recently, Zimbabwe’s government has planned to ban the chrome ore exports.

It’s known that the country started to prohibit chrome ore exports in 2007 to boost mining companies to beneficiate the mining locally.

ISSF: global stainless steel consumption expected to go up by 8.3% in 2011

International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) indicated during the meeting held by British Stainless Steel Association (BSSA) that it’s predicted that the global stainless steel consumption would rise by 8.3% this year. Also, the increase rate in 2012 would be similar to that in 2011.

Japan’s stainless steel scrap export doubles in Feb.

According to data, Japan exported 15,770 tons of stainless steel scrap in February, surged by 2.1 times in comparison of 7,409 tons in January.

Besides, the average prices of the stainless steel scrap exports were at ¥198,805/ton, up by 8.1% m-o-m.
